November 24th, 2011 – New Revised Edition – download - Implementing the Principles for Responsible Investment at the University of Toronto
The report offers a guide to the benefits and costs associated with implementing the Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) at the University of Toronto.
The report concludes it highly beneficial for the University of Toronto to expand its diligence and capacity for incorporating ESG issues into its investment decision-making by becoming a signatory to the PRI, adopting the Principles of Responsible Investing. By doing so, the University will continue to establish itself as a leading university, placing itself in a better position to mitigate long term financial risk, to take advantage of investment return opportunities, and to participate in collaborative engagement initiatives associated with ESG issues, where it deems appropriate.
RIC Pub Night Success!
The Responsible Investing Committee (RIC) would like to thank all those whom attended the RIC Pub Night. Several attendees brought their passion and dedication to the committee, ultimately joining one of the many subcommittees the RIC offers, including the initiative to influence the University to adopt the United Nations Principles for Responsible Investing. Feel free to bring issues that you are passionate about to the the next RIC Event.
New Committee Members! The Responsible Investing Committee is happy to introduce two new student members: Jaclyn Pace, a student at the Rotman School of Business and Graham Carey, a PhD candidate in electrical engineering with a passion for sustainability. Former student members John Maiorano and Thomas Felix will remain on the committee as alumni members.
About the RIC
The RIC was formed in 2009 as an advisory Committee to the Vice-Chair of Business Affairs, appointed by the President of the University. The RIC is composed of a number of university stakeholders including professors, staff, alumni, students and UTAM staff. Amongst these stakeholders dialogue, discussion and investigation results in recommendations to the University on how to better incorporate environmental or social matters into its investment policies.
The Responsible Investing Committee follows University leaders in the US, such as Columbia University and Brown University whom have formed similar Advisory Committees. The University of Toronto is the first, and only, university in Canada to form such a committee.
